WELCOME WEEK STARTS AUG. 21 (Aug. 21-27, various locations)
"The Incredible AUM Welcome Week 2005" begins Aug. 21 with a Welcome Back Cookout, sponsored by Baptist Campus Ministries (BCM) and the Office of Housing and Student Life, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the BCM Student Center, 7095 AUM Drive. For more information, call the BCM at (334) 272-0658.
Other activities for the week are listed below. Nine events, indicated with *, have been designated as "mission critical" in helping students meet new people.
Monday - Thursday
*Library Tours--Get a quick 30-minute overview of the services available. Meet at the main desk on the first floor of the Library Tower any day at 12:30, 2:30 or 5 p.m.
9 a.m.-3 p.m.: Free sodas sponsored by BCM - Quad
11 a.m.-1 p.m.: Student Involvement Fair - Quad • Visit with representatives from AUM student organizations as well as campus service departments. Various off-campus vendors also will participate.
11 a.m.-1 p.m.: Intramural Sports Registration - Quad • Information and registration for fall team and individual intramural sports will be available. (334) 244-3933.
12:15 p.m.: NPHC Greek Step Tease - Quad
12:20-12:50 p.m.: *Lunch & Learn “Staying Healthy” - Faculty/Staff Dining Room, 214 Taylor Center • The Nursing Care Center staff will provide tips for a healthy lifestyle in college and discuss the services they provide.
12:30 p.m.: AUM Canterbury Association - 317 Taylor Center • Meet for Episcopal Holy Eucharist followed by a free lunch in the Senators Cafe . All faiths are welcome. (334) 220-1520.
5:15 p.m.: Wellness Program - Deichelmann Conference Center, 10th floor Library Tower • Yoga classes for students as well as faculty and staff are offered every Monday and Thursday afternoon. (334) 244-3546.
9-10 p.m.: *“Meet the Greeks” - Student Activities Room, 230 Taylor Center • All AUM fraternities and sororities will have information for prospective members. Refreshments will be provided.
10 p.m.: Mandatory Residence Hall Floor/Building Meetings with Resident Assistants (RAs).
12:20-12:50 p.m.: *Lunch & Learn “Being Safe” - Faculty/Staff Dining Room, 214 Taylor Center • Representatives from the AUM Police Department will provide tips for personal safety as well as how to protect vehicles and property while on campus.
9 p.m.: *Broom Ball - Eastdale Mall Ice Rink • Sort-of like hockey using a broom and without skates. Sponsored by the Campus Activities Board (CAB).
11 a.m.-1 p.m.: “Wild Wednesday” - Quad • Sponsored by CAB one Wednesday each month.
11 a.m.- 1 p.m.: Free Hot Dog Cookout - Quad • Sponsored by BCM
11: 30 a.m.: Wellness Program - Deichelmann Conference Center, 10th Floor Library Tower • Yoga lessons Wednesdays and Fridays for students, faculty & staff.
12:20-12:50 p.m.: *Lunch & Learn “Getting Connected” - Faculty/Staff Dining Room, 214 Taylor Center • Staff from the Counseling Center will discuss how to make personal and academic connections at AUM to increase chances of being a successful student.
3-6 p.m.: *Student Support Services Open House - 318 Taylor Center • Visit the SSS Computer/Tutoring Lab and find out more about the assistance provided for eligible AUM students. Refreshments and door prizes will be provided. (334) 244-3536.
9 p.m.: *BINGO! - Student Activities Room, 230 Taylor Center • Sponsored by Housing and Student Life and open to any AUM student.
11 a.m.-1 p.m.: SGA Day - Quad • Meet members of the Student Government Association and learn how to get involved on campus.
Noon-1 p.m.: Free Lunch - BCM Student Center • The BCM offers lunch every Wednesday and Thursday during the semester for $2 but today it’s free.
12:20-12:50 p.m.: *Lunch & Learn “Helping Others” -Faculty/Staff Dining Room, 214 Taylor Center • Want to volunteer for campus and community service projects with other AUM students? Find out about “Make a Difference Day” and the American Humanics programs.
